Mussenden Temple

Mussenden Temple was built by the Earl-Bishop of Derry in 1783, as a summer library. It was inspired by the Tivoli Temple of Vesta.

Now owned by the National Trust, the Temple perilously sits on the cliff top, overlooking the glorious Benone beach and Castlerock golf course, with stunning views over the North Coast. Inside the Temple there is a display of information about the Bishop and his estates. The visitor is free to view the palace ruins and grounds, which also feature the famous Lions Gate.
